Effects of MonoAcylGlycerols In Colorectal cancer

The aim of MAGIC project is to develop a produce and characterize a vegetal carbon, called biochar, so to be used as carrier containing mono- and diacyl-glicerols of butyrate adsorbed (biochar-adsorbed butyrate MAG/DAG/glycerol BMDG compound). The advantage of the use of this novel molecule is linked to the expected increased efficacy of the biochar-BMDG molecule compared to butyrate alone in terms of CRC prevention and therapy, due to the envisage additional properties of biochar not only on the transport and bioavailability of the molecule transported, but also on the ability of biochar to modify the intestinal pH thus contributing to alter the intestinal microbiome composition towards a profile associated with a better evolution of the tumor. The innovative solution proposed in this project is to adopt biochar as a safe, inexpensive and renewable carrier for the previously described MAG/DAG compound. The groundbreaking cutting-edge complex approach adopted in this project involves unique synergistic and multidisciplinary academic, research and health excellences belonging to the regional territory, integrating engineering, food, biotechnology, microbiology and medicine expertise to address prevention and treatment of CRC, one of the major medical and socio-economic burden of our modern society. The strong additional value of this compound is that it combines the properties of molecules used in nutraceutics in humans, namely butyrate, and active-char, thus representing a non-invasive and promising approach for CRC.
