Brief Biographical sketch of the Coordinator: Born in Prato, Italy, in 1965, E.M. graduated from Florence Medical School in 1990 and received his post-graduate degree in Endocrinology in Florence, in 1995. He worked as Diabetologist in the Geriatric Unit of Careggi Hospital, Florence, from 2004 to 2009, and he directed the Diabetes Agency of Careggi Hospital from 2009 to 2015. Since 2015, he is Associate Professor of Endocrinology at the University of Florence and Director of the Division of Diabetology and Metabolic Diseases of Careggi Hospital.

 

Member of the Scientific Board of the Doctorate/Phd Program

Endocrine, Molecular and Regenerative Sciences of the University of Florence.

 

Member of the following Scientific Societies:

 Italian Society of Diabetology, Italian Association of Diabetologists, Italian Society of Obesity.

Previeus research experiences

The coordinator and the other members of the group have previous experience on microvascular endothelial cells as a model for the in vitro study of diabetic microangiopathy; gene therapy of rodent models of diabetes with genes codifying for GLP1 analogues; in vivo assessment of the impairment of GLP1 axis in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes; development of psychometric instruments for the study of quality of life and well-being in diabetes and obesity; assessment of the psychological profile of patients with obesity, type 1 and type 2 diabetes, and eating disorders; association of different diabetes treatment with incident cancer.
